The Ship's Closet and Kirk/Spock Day

On September 15th, 1967, Amok Time first aired on television. Amok Time is infamously one of the most slashy episodes of the original series, filled with all that yummy sexual tension. Seeing as this is so, it has become the unofficial Kirk/Spock holiday!

What will we do?

- Read a ton of fan fiction
- Discuss lots and lots with fellow K/S fans
- Watch videos on YouTube, and even some movies
- Basically spend a whole day dedicated to Kirk/Spock, keeping in mind the awesomeness and significance of this couple!

Visit the event page on Facebook and attend!

And on the 15th, Brittany (DowneyAdmirer on YouTube) asked me to edit an intro/credits video for her, and for what is to be the most awesome K/S project to hit the web thusfar: The Ship's Closet! More about it here:

Mini-hiatus

I won't be making many more videos for a while; It's my senior year of high school, and I'm busy studying and having lots of fun. NO, I am NOT quitting YouTube; I'm simply taking a break from making videos from a while! Still, feel free to message/comment/rate/subscribe /whatever as much as you want to!

I don't think I'll ever quit YouTube; making videos is way too much fun, and making all of my subscribers happy is even more fun. I love you guys!!!

Star Trek Video Contest: The Winners

Thank You!
Thank you guys again for taking part in this contest! I was so happy with the number of people that submitted a video, and I'm not lying when I say I enjoyed watching every single one. I do hope to see more in the future! It really was tough to judge, though...Jen (FateLovesTomorrow) and I were having trouble choosing between some of them, but we managed to make the "logical" choice, as Spock would say!! (click to watch the results video)

What changed:
We decided to do a top five as well as the first, second, & third place winners. The other two have recieved an honorable mention, and have been named "Most___" because we love them so much.

ChildeAtHeart17 managed to completely blow away two Trekkies who weren't fans of this love Triangle...until we saw this video. Hot Mess, a Kirk/Spock/Bones (2009) triangle hit the #1 spot on our list! The editing in this video was spot on, the song was just plain sexy, and well, what else can we say? We're speechless!

Spock/Zarabeth - Crushed by DoubleTreble1518 won second place in our contest.
Jen and I love the fact that this is such a rare pairing, video wise, and despite never being done the video was amazing. The "love letter" concept worked great, and we loved the emotion behind the video. The screenshots added a nice effect and the matching with the music was excellent!

This video proves that you don't need fancy video-editing software to have an amazing video; DowneyAdmirer managed to use Windows Movie Maker to make Kirk/Spock - My Immortal, and it placed third in our contest. We loved the integration of TOS clips for the flashbacks, the syncing of the song, the way she put the scene of the Enterprise exploding with the "explosion" of guitars in the song, and the fact that she nailed the emotion of My Immortal and Kirk's grief with the death of Spock.

Regarding SEE Trek Love

I find it very important that I post this on my blog, because it is an issue that I must get off of my chest right away. It is something that I want people who watch my videos, and people who are aware of my existence absolutely need to see.

About a month ago, I was intoruced to SEE Trek Love. As you might know, I help run the Kirk/Spock fanpage on Facebook, and someone had posted a link to it there. Basically, the site contained a petition specifically stating that whoever signed it wanted to see the characters of Kirk and Spock be a 100% canon couple in the next Star Trek movie. At first I was very keen to the idea. Knowing me, I'm a huge supporter of K/S, and for the record I will never put myself in the same category of screaming fangirls, but I liked the idea of Kirk and Spock together in the new movie. I thought it was also a great idea and a great opportunity for gays to be more widely accepted in the media, but it began mostly as me wanting my OTP canonized.

But that's when I began having my doubts. In the back of my mind I thought more and more each day that there was something wrong with this. I saw a few posts on LiveJournal, and was completely frustrated to see that my peers on the SEE website, as well as myself, were being called stupid (amongst other things), and our cause was being referred to as "SEE Trek!Fail." Not only that, but people on SEE have been called sexist and racist because of some things on the forum that have been said. (Mary Sue-hura, Uhura-bitch, etc.) There are people who were just, in general, against our cause, so naturally Lance, whom which I have talked with personally on chat/Facebook re-booted the site as well as the petition, completely leaving Kirk/Spock out of it the cause. Still, there were comments like this on LJ that sparked my attention:

"...Like people haven't been trying to get gay characters on Trek for over 20 years now"

That quote basically saying that we're part of a useless cause, and that brings me back to "why are we fighting for this?" because...well, here it goes, and keep it in mind that I am partly playing the devil's advocate here, but SEE Trek Love DID start out as the canonizing of Kirk/Spock, and it was clearly a huge mistake. Even I see that now. It may not have been our intention, but we gave off the impression of being a bunch of fangirls(&boys) using the excuse of supporting LGBT rights just to get K/S canonized. I do see why people were pissed off by this. It was, in general, a terrible idea. I especially see that now, being a person who is completely supportive of LGBT rights in this country. So problem fixed, right? Now we are fighting for LGBT rights in Star Trek, fandoms aside,...but is this something that we need to FIGHT for? It's been talked about time and time again in many places on the internet that people involved with Star Trek have been trying to bring homosexuality into Trek.

Now that we've hit (and fixed) such a flaw, where do we go from here on SEE? It might be a good idea to post something that LJ users can find easily, explaining our cause, and proving all of the insults they have said about us are WRONG. My MAIN POINT here is this: We need TO redeem ourselves, and try to put the insults behind us. It's absolutely imperative that we prove ourselves, and make it completely clear that we have changed our site and petition in light of the fact that we have realized our mistakes.

This, is a personal note. I honestly hope that in any circumstance in which I am somehow brought into a LJ discussion, this will be seen. With me being a known K/S videomaker on YouTube and also someone who supports, yes supports SEE Trek Love,it is very likely that I will be mentioned on one of the SEE-bashing entries.

Yes, I do support Kirk/Spock, and that is completely obvious. Yes, I have said my fair share of things about Uhura that I particularly didn't like, and that isn't Uhura's fault, that is the writers' fault honestly. To get that cleared up real quickly, let me just say that I didn't like the way Uhura was in nuTrek. I found that the writers could have done the character a lot more justice instead of just making her the romantic interest throughout the entire movie. With that aside, let me get to my main issue: I feel stupid for originally wanting to canonize my OTP. That was what I wanted at first. I willingly admit that. I have always been someone who has wanted rights for the gay community, and also for the African Americans. ALWAYS. I just want everyone who said horrible things about us at SEE that everyone I have come in contact with on that site feels the same way as me. It originally was not intended to be a homophobic jab at the LGBT community, or an excuse to use that as a reason to get our favorite slash couple canonized. That is the way it came off as, but it is important to know that it isn't the only reason that the petition was started. None of us meant to come off as homophobic, racist, or sexist. It's the opposite of that completely. If you haven't noticed we have a seperate forum on SEE adressing Women's Rights.

Now we are all just confused as to why the posters on LiveJournal continue to say hateful things like

"*peeks into the forum, immediately regrets it*

I looked into the stupid, and THE STUPID LOOKED BACK INTO ME.
"

and

"I don't need even more stupid in my life at the moment"

Honestly, peeking into the forum isn't going to help you understand us completely. Sorry. If you have a problem with this "failure" of a website (which we have FIXED, I might add) tell us what you think we should improve upon. Don't continue to bash and insult us without telling us why we deserve it.

This was all sparked by originalpuck's post on LiveJournal, and even when Lance messaged her she couldn't even give us clear criticism.

Comments are greatly appreciated. I would love to hear what you think of all this (if anyone actually reads this...)

Photo from Womanizer @ Open Video Conference in NYC

This was sent to me in my YouTube inbox! Jonathan of PoliticalRemixVideo.com told me that everyone seemed to enjoy it. There's nothing cooler than seeing people watch your video, that's for sure! My video was shown at the Open Video Conference at NYU Law School last month. Thanks again, Jonathan for taking this picture and having my video shown there.

Now that I'm done dying of laughter...

It's a shame I've never seen Sailor Moon...ever. Pine actually looks pretty...minus his weird complexion...and Scotty looks quite pretty too, I must say!! Thank you Oni @ SEE for helping me find this weirdness.

Gene's Vision

I posted this on SeeTrekLove, but I thought that I should repost it here, because every word of it that I say is straight from my heart.

Ever since I first read Gene's quote, I have always thought that at the time he was maybe too afraid to admit that Kirk and Spock's relationship was more than just a good friendship, and if he admitted it was true love that maybe it would taint the name of Star Trek as everyone knew it and send homophobic Trekkies throwing spears and torches at him. I don't think Kirk/Spock was a mistake made by Gene. I don't think it was like "Oh oops..I did make them seem rather in love, didn't I? That wasn't what I was trying to do!" Gene never flat out said "No. They're just friends. Nothing more." He always left the possibility of them being lovers out there. We all know how compassionate and open-minded Gene was, how he truly wanted to boldy go where no man has gone before. An interracial kiss was the breaking of the first barrier. Perhaps he was trying to break barriers with Kirk/Spock? Maybe all along, he wanted this fandom, Kirk/Spock, to really come into existence! "Imagine, a whole group of fans dedicated to my hidden vision?"

What I love about the true love between Kirk and Spock is that it's there, and it's hidden under the surface of it all, the facade of just another Sci-Fi TV show. Here I go, being metaphorical: We're the people who can dive underneath and see it all. The people who disapprove of K/S just can't swim.

Kirk confesses his love for Spock

I was on the Kirk/Spock fanpage on Facebook, and I noticed this post:

"There is a detailed account of the filming of this episode in the 1975 book Star Trek Lives! Co-author Joan Winston had the opportunity to spend six days on the set while "Turnabout Intruder" was being shot. Winston wrote that Shatner was very ill with the flu at the time, and had considerable difficulty in picking up and carrying Sandra Smith, the actress who played Dr. Lester, for take after take. Winston also recalled many amusing anecdotes that took place during the shooting. For example, William Shatner flubbed the line, "Spock, give it up. Come back to the Enterprise family. All charges will be dropped. And the madness that overcame all of us on Camus II will fade and be forgotten." Instead, he blurted out, 'Spock, it's always been you, you know it's always been you. Say you love me too.' "

...I had a huge fangirl attack when I read this. First I thought "Now, now...this can't be true...it's way too good to be true," but then I did some Googling. I found that passage that I copied+pasted on Memory Alpha which is, from what I understand, a reliable source of information. I find this line-flubbing totally freakin' amazing, but as an actress myself, I don't think I'd ever confess my love to someone when trying to cover for a missed line, sick or not. I've definitely been sick on stage before and let me tell you it's not fun, but I've never given a full-on love confessional to a co-actor before. Juuuuust sayin'...

Cute, slashy scene cut from Star Trek XI

I found an article about deleted scenes from the movie, and this was a proposed idea for what happens when Spock meets Spock prime at the end of the movie:

"Finally, at the end of the script is provided an alternate take on the scene in which Spock and Spock Prime meet. Before saying goodbye, Spock Prime hands Spock a locket. Spock activates the locket and sees a holographic video of Kirk, and by that I mean Shatner, singing happy birthday to Spock and congratulating him on becoming an ambassador. The message continues, basically telling Spock that the two of them should get back together one more time with a starship and just... explore."

Is that not totally cuuuuuttee? It would have made all of us so happy in all its adorable Spirkiness. Of course then I read the rest of the article:

"Whatever the case I think the movie is just fine without it. Better even. They are rebooting Trek here. Leaning too much on the old Trek is just a sign of weakness. Leaving this out is a sign of confidence."

...but come on. How cute would that have been? It really would have shown QuintoSpock that it is their destiny to be a famous duo (or 'imfamous duo' as Blunty on YouTube calls them) boldy and bravely leading a starship as they did in their other life. It may not have really wouldn't have worked for XI if you think about it, because it is true that they should leave old Trek alone and try to establish themselves as a new Trek. What if they had used that locket idea in one of the TOS movies? That would have just been so adorable.

In short, I guess would have liked XI a LOT more if they had more of Kirk and Spock's friendship developing, becuase that was really what TOS was about when it all comes down to it, but I suppose that's what TOS is for: Kirk and Spock's wonderful relationship. And that, we will always have to love and cherish.

A Star Trek Contest - Open to anyone!

ADDITIONAL RULES I FORGOT:

The video you submit must be NEW. (2 weeks old at the most) and the max you can enter is 2.

HOW TO GET CLIPS:
There are some TOS episodes on YouTube, as well as other clips. It's a good idea to download clips from YouTube that do not have someone's watermark in the corner (like my iS for example) and if it does ask for permission first. Use this program to download from YouTube. It works great.

I'd love to see all of you (yes, all of you!) to try this! This isn't a command, just a request. :D

The judges will be myself and FateLovesTomorrow.

Poetry?

Is it story time on the bridge, or what!?? Either that or Jim is reading Pockie some Shakespearean sonnets.

I found these at the My Star Trek Scrapbook blogspot page.

Note the way this almost looks like flirting here. Haha.

This makes me so excited, you don't even know! I work so hard on my videos and it's great to get recognition for my work. Womanizer, in particular, was one of the hardest videos I've ever edited. Thank you so much.

(from politicalremixvideo.com:)

"This vid, by 16
(at the time) year old ImaginarySanity, casts James T. Kirk from the original 1960s Star Trek series as the subject of Britany Spears hit song Womanizer. It layers appropriated clips of the Starship captains romances-of-the-week combined with a series of colored filters and motion effects to match the video to the beat of the audio. It is no secret that sexism plagued the first Star Trek series and considering Kirks notorious skirt-chasing, we think the vid exposes his inner womanizer perfectly.

ImaginarySanity also playfully hints at a mass media double standard: while its acceptable (and often expected) for men to be sexually available and have multiple partners without settling down, women who engage in similar sexual activity are criticized and often portrayed as sluts. As the ending credits indicate this vid characterizes Kirk as the male slut and portrays his Casanova ways in a more critical light."

Video Downloads!

Finally! By tomorrow or the next day, you will be able to download most of my Kirk/Spock videos for your very enjoyment! (Warning: some files can get up to 200 MB in size, but you can resize them once you download them, if you wish.) I'd love it if you downloaded them! :) After those are all up, my other videos will also be available for download too!

♥Love to you all.

It's definitely too good to be true! Pinch me?

I can't believe that a video I uploaded two weeks ago is now at 6.5k+ views. It amazes me like nothing else. This is for everyone who has loyally subscribed me and sent such awesome comments:

Thank you so much for your support and enthusiasm! Nothing makes me happier than knowing how much people enjoy my work. I'm stunned that with one video, I've gained another hundred subscribers. It may be just a number to some, but to me it really shows that I'm doing something good here, and for that I can't thank you enough. I love you all! <3

Deleted videos & Where to find them

This is starting to get so frustrating. So far, 6 of my videos have been deleted. There will be more. I know it. So far, the following have been removed:

Strictly Ballroom - Crazy For You
Wonderful Times on the Enterprise
Star Trek XI Trailer - Die Another Day
Imagine Me Without You (Kirk/Spock)
Tonight And The Rest of My Life (Kirk/Spock)
The Voyager Crew - An Everlasting Love

Some of these can still be watched elsewhere, fortunately. Eventually I will put them all up, either on imeem, Vimeo, or both. So stay posted!

Here's what's up elsewhere that has been previously deleted from YouTube:

Wonderful Times on the Enterprise
Star Trek XI Trailer - Die Another Day
Imagine Me Without You (Kirk/Spock)
Tonight and the Rest of My Life (Kirk/Spock)

2 more copyright claims by YouTube

Mood:

Gloomy

Imagine Me Without You (K/S) and Tonight and the Rest of my Life (K/S) have both been claimed by YouTube today, which makes me really upset. I had to replace the audio with two random songs, so that at least the video still exists.

Hopefully in a few days I'll be able to get a VIP Imeem account and I'll post all of my videos there, including the 5 that YouTube have deleted.

Oh and here's what's coming soon:

- ImaginarySanity: A Vid History (2007-2008)
- Lying From You (Kirk/Spock)
- Kirk Is A Womanizer
- Fearless (Janeway/Chakotay)

and on the website...:
- Video downloads in .mp4 format
- Kate Mulgrew video section

100 YouTube Subscribers

SeverusSnapeHasMyHea (also known as FoolishWandWaving) is my 100th channel subscriber on YouTube! *smiles happily*

I'll be dedicating my next Harry Potter slash vid to her :) Let's hope YouTube's fanvid community doesn't completely die out, right?

Finally getting things going!

Mood:

sleepy

I just spent about an hour and a half on just the Kirk/Spock page alone! I'm hoping this will serve well as a part website, part blog, place for everyone to find my work.

I have 4-5 videos in the works. A few need to be saved and uploaded, but I fear YouTube will reject them. The others are ones I have put on hold for a while because school has started up again and I'm really preoccupied with schoolwork on top of setting up this website and my Vimeo account.

I've already created the "title posters" for two of the videos which I'll be uploading soon. One is "Womanizer", a Kirk tribute. The other is "Fearless" which is a Janeway/Chakotay pairing.
